Petro Poroshenko: The whole world is with Ukraine, Russia found itself in complete isolation




On the Day of Commemoration of Participants of Hostilities in the Territories of Other States and on the 27th anniversary of withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, President Petro Poroshenko noted that the state independence of Ukraine chosen 25 years ago was the guarantee of non-repetition of the tragic historic events.

“The empire hasn’t changed. The evidence of that is the occupation of Crimea, the aggression in the east of our state and the shelling of peaceful areas in Syria. Just imagine that if Ukraine hadn’t broken up with Russia in 1991, our children would have to perform the so-called “international duty” in Syria, other states of the Middle East or anywhere else. There is no point on the world map free of Russian reckless geopolitical ambitions,” Petro Poroshenko said.

"Imperial megalomania is a very dangerous diagnosis. Some people are ill and others have to pay for the treatment with their lives. That is why the whole world is with Ukraine and Russia found itself in a complete isolation," the President said.

Les images d’un dealer fouetté à mort par des rebelles pro-russes, en Ukraine, font actuellement le tour de la toile. Sur ces images insoutenables, on peut voir cet homme, attaché à un poteau avec de la rubalise, se faire fouetter par un homme cagoulé et armé d’un câble électrique. Selon toute vraisemblance, l’homme n’a pas survécu à ce châtiment.


Un dealer de drogues, capturé dans le sud de l’Ukraine par des rebelles pro-russes, s’est vu infliger un châtiment d’une violence inouïe.

Attaché à un poteau, dos nu, l’homme a enduré des dizaines, voire des centaines de coups donnés avec un câble électrique, comme on peut le voir sur cette vidéo postée par le Daily Mail.

Selon la traduction réalisée par nos confrères, l'homme implore son bourreau d'arrêter, hurlant sa douleur. Celui-ci lui demande alors s'il reconnaît être un dealer de drogues, ce à quoi l'homme répond "Non, mais je peux vous donner un numéro et quelqu'un viendra avec de la drogue."

Une seconde voix, sans doute celle de la personne qui filme la scène, demande alors "Pourquoi il a en sa possession le numéro d'un dealer" avant que la punition ne se poursuive.
"Pas besoin de tribunaux, pas besoin de jugements, on a ce qu'il faut", peut-on également entendre, toujours selon la traduction du Daily Mail.

Si l'issue de cette vidéo n'est pas connue, on peut imaginer que l'homme a fini par succomber...

Militants Move Heavy Weapons From Place Of Permanent Storage

Beyond the withdrawal lines but outside storage sites, the SMM observed heavy weapons.
           
This OSCE SMM’s report of February 15, published on the organization’s website today, reported this.

Beyond the withdrawal lines but outside storage sites, the SMM observed the following Addendum-regulated weapons: one tank at a training area in “LPR”-controlled Uspenka (23km south-west of Luhansk); 14 tanks (T64 and T72) positioned for a live-fire exercise at a training range in “LPR”-controlled Myrne (28km south-west of Luhansk); 28 tanks (T64 and T72) at a training area in “LPR”-controlled Kruhlyk (31km south-west of Luhansk).

The SMM continued to monitor the withdrawal of heavy weapons foreseen in the Minsk Package of Measures. The SMM has yet to receive the full information requested in the 16 October 2015 notification. The SMM revisited locations known to the SMM as heavy weapons holding areas, even though they do not comply with the specific criteria set out for permanent storage sites in the 16 October 2015 notification.

It should be recalled that Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission Alexander Hug said that militants continued to restrict OSCE observers’ access to the occupied territories.

Russian Echelon Carrying Artillery, Ammunition And Fuel Arrived To Makiyivka

The Russian Federation continues to supply military equipment, hardware, ammunition and fuel and lubricants to the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas. 
            
This was reported by the Main Military Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

As the Intelligence reports, the Russian Federation continues to supply military equipment, hardware, ammunition and fuel and lubricants to the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas. In particular, an echelon carrying artillery (122-mm howitzers D-30), ammunition (about 40 ton) and fuel, oil and lubricants (about 60 ton) arrived to Makiyivka on February 15-16.

Besides, five armored combat vehicles, two 122-mm MRLS ‘Grad’, two bowsers and two trucks were brought to the village of Kumachove.

As the Intelligence previously reported, a column of Russian vehicles carrying ammunition and equipment noticed in Donbas.

Minsk accords: one year later


Ukraine grew stronger. The Ukrainian Armed Forces received new uniforms, arms and equipment, honing their fighting skills during the drills with Western military advisers and instructors. We continue to get military, financial and humanitarian assistance from the international community, while Russia weakens under increasing pressure of sanctions and crashed oil prices.

Elections In Occupied Donbas Require Security Guarantees And Political Will Of Russia, – Kuchma

The representative of Ukraine in the Trilateral contact group Leonid Kuchma said that settlement of the situation in Donbas is impossible without security. 
           
This is stated in the notice of the Kuchma’s spokeswoman Darka Olifer published on Facebook after the meeting of the group.

“It is impossible to move forwar towards the implementation of the Minsk without quarantees of security. How can we ensure the local elections in Donbas, restoring of infrastructure, improving of the socio-economic situation in the occupied areas in the conditions of constant shelling, clashes and so on?”, – she quoted Kuchma.

Olifer also noted that Ukraine remains true to its obligations and is ready to move towards the enforcement of the Minsk agreements in full.

According to her, the Ukrainian side is set to working out “modalities of local elections” in Donbas in accordance with Ukrainian legislation and OSCE standards, but Kyiv cannot ensure their implementation “only through its own efforts”, it requires “political will and constructive approach on the part of Russia”.

Kuchma’s representative also said that systematic violation of ceasefire on the part of separatists supported by Russia causes deep concern – the number of attacks increases every day, including 91 episodes yesterday.

Special attention was paid to the release of hostages.

“Ukraine insists on the admission of experts of the International Committee of the Red Cross to the places of prisoners’ detention in some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and on the immediate release of Ukrainian citizens”, – said Darka Olifer in her statement.

Vladislav Surkov, assistant of RF President, visited Donetsk occupied by pro-Russian militants. 
           
Oleksandr Tkachuk, Chief of SSU Chairman’s Staff, announced this, – Ukrainska Pravda reported.

“We received information that on February 16, presidential aide Vladislav Surkov was in Donetsk. Russia concealed preparations for this visit carefully”, – he said.

“During the visit, Russian citizen Surkov listened to reports of the heads of “DPR” local administrations, check out the special aspects of the socio-political and military-political situation in the region”, – he said.

According to Tkachuk, preparation to the so-called elections in the occupied territories was one of the issues.

“The visit resulted in making of several decisions of personnel changes and certain political issues in the “DPR”.

Tkachuk reminded that on January 19-20, Surkov visited the Luhansk region with a similar mission.

“Such visits of a person close to the Russian president prove the tight control of Kremlin and Russia in general over processes happening in the occupied territories of Donbas”, – said Tkachuk.

“In fact, the leadership of the puppet republic is under RF’s control”, – he added.

It should be recalled, that Nadiia Savchenko indicated Surkov’s assistant as one of her capturers.

The EU has broken its taboo on referring to Russian forces in east Ukraine in its official documents.

It said in its Official Journal on Monday (16 February) that Russian deputy defence minister Anatoly Antonov is being added to its blacklist because he is “involved in supporting the deployment of Russian troops in Ukraine”.

It listed first deputy defence minister Arkady Bakhin for the same reason.

It also listed Andrei Kartapolov, a senior Russian military commander, for being “involved in shaping and implementing the military campaign of the Russian forces in Ukraine”.

The text in the legal gazette is signed by EU foreign relations chief Federica Mogherini.

EU leaders did, in an informal declaration in August last year, mention "aggression by Russian armed forces on Ukrainian soil".

Individual EU officials, such as Council chief Donald Tusk, have also made hawkish remarks.

Meanwhile, Ukraine, the US, and Nato have spoken of Russian forces in Ukraine since last July. Nato and the US also published satellite images to back it up.


But Mogherini has, since coming to office, and with the exception of Russia-annexed Crimea, avoided any reference to the Russian military in Ukraine.

The last time EU foreign ministers published a statement, on 29 January, they also circumlocutions, speaking of: “evidence of continued and growing support given to the separatists by Russia, which underlines Russia's responsibility”.

They urged “foreign armed groups” to leave Ukrainian territory.

The old EU taboo went above minister level.

When French, German, Russian, and Ukrainian leaders agreed a ceasefire in Minsk last week, they also bowed to Russia’s claim its soldiers aren’t in Ukraine by calling for withdrawal of “foreign armed formations”.

When leaders of the G7 wealthy nations spoke out last week they, likewise, referred to “Russian-backed separatist militias” only.

No accident

For her part, Mogherini’s spokeswoman, Maja Kocijancic, told EUobserver the new language in the Official Journal is not an accident.

She said it reflects “mounting evidence, underlining Russia’s responsibility” for the conflict.

One piece of evidence is a classified report on Russian activity in Ukraine compiled by Mogherini’s intelligence-sharing branch, IntCen, and circulated to capitals ahead of 29 January.

An EU diplomat, who asked not to be named, noted: "This new form of Russian warfare - using tanks and soldiers without insignia - is something we haven't seen before. We're still trying to work out how to respond to it".

A second EU diplomat added: “It [the latest Official Journal text] is a clear and understandable message against Russian propaganda and all the lies about non-Russian engagement in the military conflict”.

Russia’s claim it isn’t involved in east Ukraine is central to its propaganda message: that the conflict is a “civil war” between Ukrainian nationalists and Russian “separatists”.

The 16 February Official Journal, which also listed nine entities, highlighted the manufactured nature of the “separatism”.

Most of the entities are battalions of Russia’s irregular fighters in Ukraine.

But one of them is “Novorossiya”, a Russian “public movement” named after the Kremlin concept that east and south-east Ukraine, or “New Russia”, belong to Russia on ancestral grounds.

The Official Journal noted that Novorossiya is run by Igor Strelkov, who is already EU-blacklisted for organising an insurgency in Donetsk, east Ukraine, last March. 
 
The EU gazette says he is a “Russian officer … identified as a staff member of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (GRU)”.

Two Squadrons Of Russian Military Came To Antratsyt From Rostov Region

Intelligence reported that on February 16, the Russian Federation delivered personnel, food, fuel and lubricants for the needs of "first and second army corps". 
           
This was reported by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.

“There is a growing accumulation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas. The arrangements for the transfer of personnel, fuel and lubricants and food for the needs of first and second army corps continued on February 16”, – said the statement.

Reportedly, two squadrons of the Russian military came from Rostov region of Russia to Antratsyt by cars, echelon with 360 tons of fuel arrived to Mykhailivka and echelon with spare parts for tanks and food arrived to Khartsyzsk.

As the Intelligence reported yesterday, Russian echelon carrying artillery, ammunition and fuel arrived to Makiivka.

Staff: Militants Prepare To Capture Marinka

Militants continue to build up military hardware in Petrovsk district of Donetsk and prepare to capture Marinka, the western outskirts of the city. 
            
This was reported by the press center of the ATO Staff with reference to evidences provided by locals.

The locals reported large concentration of military hardware forbidden by the Minsk Agreements. In particular, they noticed several MLRS Grad and over 10 tanks in the area.

According to the Staff, terrorists do not hide their intentions to capture Marinka within the next 24 hours.

As the ATO Staff previously reported, militants of illegal armed formations opened fire against the positions of ATO forces 47 times.

3 Russian military killed, 5 wounded in clashes near Mariupol

«На Маріупольському напрямку, в ході бойового зіткнення, знищено чергову диверсійно-розвідувальну групу збройних сил Російської Федерації. Загинуло троє та отримало поранення п’ятеро російських військових», — йдеться в повідомленні

При цьому називаються прізвища загиблих: командир відділення сержант Збройних сил Росії Леонід Нікітін, рядові Ігор Сидоров та Василь Петраченков».

Активізація диверсійно-розвідувальних дій на Маріупольському напрямку пов’язується з підготовкою до морської десантної операції, зазначає розвідка.

«Підтверджено посилення 9 окремого мотострілецького полку міста Новоазовськ 1 АК підрозділами із складу 810 окремої бригади морської піхоти Берегових військ Чорноморського флоту Російської Федерації», — також зазначено у повідомленні.

Steinmeier Expects “Decisive Steps” To Be Made During Normandy Four Meeting In Paris

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier hopes the progress in implementation of Minsk Agreements will be achieved during Normandy Four meeting in Paris on March 3. 
            
He stated this during a press conference of Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Germany and France, ‘Ukrinform’ reports.

The meeting in the Normandy format will be held in Paris on March 3.

“I think not only the three Foreign Ministers will have a say, but also the Ukrainians, Europeans, and the whole world community as well”, said Mr. Steinmeier.

According to him, Europe cannot tolerate “violation of the ceasefire in Donbas”.

“I believe we will be able to reach certain compromises and agree on joint position during the meeting in Paris”, Mr. Steinmeier added.

As previously reported, issue of Crimea was for first time raised during the Normandy Format meeting on February 13 in Munich.

Constitutional Changes Shouldn’t Legitimate Leaders Of Terrorist Formations ‘DPR’ And ‘LPR’, – Klimkin

Constitutional changes are not supposed to legitimate leaders of terrorist formations 'DPR' and 'LPR'.

This was stated by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin during a joint conference with Foreign Ministers of Germany and France, ‘Radio Liberty’ reports.

According to him, constitutional changes are a part of Minsk Agreements which are supposed to show people they are given an opportunity to take their own decisions concerning local governance.

“We are to send out this signal as the issue refers not only to the territory of Donbas, but to Ukrainian citizens living there. Still, constitutional changes shouldn’t legitimate the local authorities who had seized the power after fake elections. This kind of logic of constitutional changes is crucially important in terms of the Minsk process”, Mr. Klimkin explained.

Previously, on 31 August 2015, Verkhovna Rada, the Parliament of Ukraine, voted on the constitutional amendments on decentralisation put forward by the President. The key element of the constitutional amendments is decentralisation and adoption of a permanent legislation on the special status of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

More Than 80 Cases Of Ceasefire Violation Over Past 24 Hours, – Staff

Yesterday, on February 23, militants opened fire on the positions of Ukrainian troops 84 times. 
            
This was reported by the press center of the ATO Staff.

The situation was especially tense in Donetsk sector. Terrorists opened fire with mortars, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms 69 times.

Ukrainian positions near Avdiivka, Pisky, Opytne, Zaitseve, Maiorsk, Pervomaisk and Butivka mine were shelled with 82-mm and 120-mm mortars. Besides, positions of Ukrainian troops near Opytne were shelled with antiaircraft mount, while near Krasnohorivka – with IFV.

Mortar shellings were recorded near Talakivka, Chermalyk and Vodyane (Mariupol sector).

The frequency of enemy attacks decreased after midnight. Militants opened fire with grenade launchers and small arms several times near Opytne.

Broadcast: Ukrainian Soldiers Forced Militants To Retreat From Avdiivka

Ukrainian military forced militants to retreat from industrial zone of Avdiivka, Donetsk region. 
            
This was reported by ‘Viyskove Telebachennya’ (Military Television).

According to Ukrainian servicemen, militants were regularly violating the Minsk Agreements and shelling industrial zone and outskirts of the town.

According to the report, militants were firing with mortars forbidden by the Minsk Agreements, as well as with automatic grenade launchers and small arms. Houses of civilians could have been damaged, too.

 Ukrainian soldiers were forced to make the enemy retreat outside the town limits.

Russian Mercenary Who Tortured And Killed Ukrainian Military Served With Charges In Absentia

The Security Service of Ukraine gave a charge sheet in absentia to Russian mercenary Denis Kudrin, who tortured and killed Ukrainian military.


This was reported by the press center of the SSU.


“Citizen of Russia Denis I. Kudrin (nicknamed “Hooligan”) joined the terrorist organization “LPR” in April of 2014 and led the illegal armed formations subordinated to the Russian Military Intelligence.


He repeatedly ordered the terrorists to shell settlements in Luhansk region. Kudrin was also involved in killing and torturing of UAF members along with other militants and looting of civilians”, – said the message security.


Kudrin graduated from Serpukhov Military Institute of Missile Forces, his military service took place in Irkutsk.


Documenting of criminal activities of the Russian citizen held within the criminal proceedings initiated under Art. 258-3 (creation of terrorist groups) of the Ukrainian Criminal Code. He was served with charges in absentia.


According to the rules of international justice, official documents were sent to the place of his residence.

 

 

 





Intelligence Reported Arrival Of Russian Special Agents To Donetsk To Eliminate Illegal Armed Formations’ Leaders

Special group of members of Russian military intelligence and Federal Security Service came to the occupied Donetsk for the physical elimination of some militants’ commanders. 
           
Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported this.

According to the Intelligence, the group of Russian special services’ representatives account for about 150 people.

At the same time, the layoffs of personnel from the “first and second army corps” go on. On February 22, six military of 9^th Mechanized Regiment Marines (Novoazovsk, Donetsk region) sent tender resignations with the subsequent return to Russia.

The Intelligence also reported cases of looting by Russian soldiers and the deliberate destruction of Donbas infrastructure.

On February 22, Russian troops dismantled the metal structures of the former distribution center “Rondo” (Horlivka, Donetsk region) and tried to sell them as scrap. On February 23, eight truckloads of scrap metal obtained by the theft of objects of industrial Donbas left to Russia through Izvaryne checkpoint.

It should be recalled that on February 22, during clashes in areas of Krasnohorivka and Donetsk airport, four soldiers of the RF Armed Forces were killed, seven more  were injured.



Militants Left Shyrokyne, – Press Officer Of M Sector

Recently, militants left the village of Shyrokyne (Donetsk region) completely, Ukrainian units gained the control over it. 
           
The press officer of the M sector Oleksandr Kindsfater reported this to Ukrainska Pravda.

“Now there are measures on demining the territory and elimination of explosive devices. Militants mined almost every house, installed a lot of stretchings and booby traps. This fact is significant indicator that the terrorists were planning a major terrorist attack”, – he said.

Kindsfater also said that the Ukrainian units are now equipping firing positions in Shyrokyne.

As known, according to the Minsk agreements, Shyrokyne should remain under the UAF control.

It should be recalled that ATO forces ousted the militants from the industrial zone of Avdiivka that is in the Donetsk region.

Les parties en conflit en Ukraine conviennent de reprendre les échanges de prisonniers

La libération est prévue pour ce vendredi 26 février : huit personnes doivent être libérées par les autorités ukrainiennes et quatre par les séparatistes du Donbass, a indiqué aux journalistes Martin Sajdik, qui représente l'Organisation pour la sécurité et la coopération en Europe (OSCE) au sein du Groupe de contact sur l'Ukraine. 
 
Dix personnes avaient également été libérées le 20 février lorsque Kiev avait échangé six de ses prisonniers contre quatre relâchés par Donetsk, a rappelé le représentant de l'OSCE. 
 
M. Sajdik a expliqué que la partie ukrainienne avait confirmé qu'elle était prête à ouvrir un point de passage sur la ligne de contact au transport routier et à l'approvisionnement humanitaire près de Zolotoje à partir de ce mois de mars dans le but de maintenir la sécurité. 
 
La prochaine réunion du Groupe de contact trilatéral doit avoir lieu le 2 mars à Minsk, à la veille d'une réunion des ministres des Affaires étrangères du "Quartet Normandie" prévue le 3 mars à Paris.

Au moins Minsk apporte un minimum.

EU Not To Lift Sanctions Against Russia Until Donbas And Crimea De-oocupied, – Schmid

The European Union does not intend to remove restrictions against the Russian Federation until the resolving of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. 
           
On this day, March 2, the deputy head of the EU Foreign Service Helga Schmid stated this at the European Parliament, reports 5 Channel referring to the Ukrainian information agencies.

The actions and policies addressed in these Executive Orders continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.  For this reason, the national emergency declared on March 6, 2014, and the measures adopted on that date, on March 16, 2014, on March 20, 2014, and December 19, 2014, to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond March 6, 2016.  Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13660.

General Staff Of RF Armed Forces Lifted Special Purpose Unit From Novosibirsk To Donetsk



Unit of 24th separate brigade of special purpose of the RF Armed Forces, which is stationed in Russia’s Novosibirsk, came to temporarily occupied Donetsk. 

           

This is stated in the notice of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.



Intelligence reported the arrival of Russian military units and individual groups of Russian officers to temporarily occupied areas of Donbas.



“During the rotation of special units, 24th separate brigade of special purpose of the RF Armed Forces, which is stationed in Russia’s Novosibirsk, came to the vicinity of the 5th Separate Infantry Brigade (Donetsk) of the “First Army Corps”, – reported the department.



It was also learned that commission from the Territorial Center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Novocherkassk, Rostov Region) came to check the combat readiness and logistics of 3rd Separate Infantry Brigade (Horlivka) of the “First Army Corps”.



It should be recalled that the Intelligence called the names of Russian soldiers who died in Donbas on February 28.

NATO: 'Russian military activity in eastern Ukraine is increasing'

Russian regular servicemen continue to rotate in the conflict zone in eastern Ukraine, while combined Russian-backed separatist forces keep receiving new military equipment, weapons and ammunition, reports the Intelligence Service of Ukraine's Ministry of Defence.

"Due to the rotation of Russian special forces, the 24th special purpose separate brigade (Novosibirsk, Russia) was deployed to the Donetsk region, " reports the Ukrainian Intelligence Service.

Also, monitors from the Centre of Russia's Home Defence Force arrived in Horlivka (In Ukraine's Donetsk region) to the combat readiness of the 3rd motorized rifle brigade stationed there.
According to Ukrainian officials on March 1 Russia sent three trains with ammunition to the occupied city of Ilovaisk and two tanks and four armoured personnel vehicles to Novoazovsk.

Moscou - Le parquet russe a requis mercredi 23 ans de prison contre la pilote militaire ukrainienne Nadia Savtchenko, jugée pour le meurtre présumé de deux journalistes dans l'est séparatiste de l'Ukraine, a indiqué son avocat Mark Feyguine.

Le parquet a requis à son encontre 23 ans de prison et une amende de 100.000 roubles (1.240 euros), a déclaré M. Feyguine à l'AFP.

Le procès de la pilote, jugée depuis l'été dernier par un tribunal de Donetsk, petite ville russe à quelques kilomètres de la frontière ukrainienne, touche à sa fin, l'accusée devant prendre la parole une dernière fois jeudi, après la plaidoirie de son avocat et avant que le tribunal se retire pour délibérer.

Nadia Savtchenko comparait pour avoir, selon l'accusation, transmis à l'armée ukrainienne la position de deux journalistes russes tués par un tir de mortier dans l'est de l'Ukraine à l'été 2014.

Elle a estimé par ailleurs que si les journalistes russes avaient porté des casques et des gilets pare-balles ils seraient encore en vie, selon la même source.

La pilote a également menacé de reprendre une grève de la faim si le juge prenait plus de deux semaines pour délibérer. Dans ce cas, vous devrez annoncer le jugement à titre posthume, a-t-elle averti.

Nadia Savtchenko avait déjà observé une grève de la faim de plus de 80 jours pour protester contre sa détention, avant de mettre fin à son action en mars 2015.

Ukraine suffers over 430 casualties since Minsk deal signed - Pentagon

Michael Carpenter, deputy assistant secretary of defense with responsibilities for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, said in an interview with Voice of America Ukraine had lost over 400 of its troops in its east since the ceasefire agreement came into force, while Russia has been playing a key role in Donbas violence.



“We've seen, frankly, since the Minsk agreement was adopted a year ago, over 430 casualties among Ukrainian armed forces,” said Carpenter adding that over the course of the last six weeks, there has been an uptick in violence. VOA reports.

“Russia maintains command-and-control links over the separatists that it backs over in eastern Ukraine,” said the official. “We see Russia continuing to pour heavy weapons into the region.” Pentagon also believes that Russia still maintains a force presence inside eastern Ukraine and “certainly trains and controls the separatists there in the Donbas.”

At least 10 rocket shells were fired each time.

"This fresh 1.5-metre deep hole is what has been left after a Russian self-propelled artillery attack. The abandoned war in Europe still reminds that the peace in Ukraine is elusive."

One Ukrainian servicemen described what he saw:
"This is a part of a rocket shell that fell here at about 5 o'clock in the morning on Thursday in the direction of our base... we registered about 20 times the Grad rockets exploded, so far only found 8 pieces."

The situation in eastern Ukraine escalates as the foreign affairs ministers of Ukraine, Germany, France, and Russia met in Paris (Normandy Four) discuss the implementation of Minsk agreements, as well as the elections on occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

“The aim is to publicly humiliate Nadiia  who became a symbol of struggle for freedom in Ukraine. Russia wants to use her case to intimidate other sons and daughters of Ukraine, who defend their statehood”, – said MEP who is the chairman of European Friends of Ukraine in the European Parliament.



It should be recalled that on Thursday in Donetsk (Rostov region of RF) the last court hearing of the case of Ukrainian MP Nadiia Savchenko takes place. Savchenko is accused under articles “murder” and “attempted murder.” Prosecutors ask for 23-year imprisonment.

This was announced today at a press conference by the head of the Human rights monitoring mission in Ukraine Fiona Fraser during the presentation of the 13th report of the mission, said Ukrinform.



“The so-called Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic continue to deny the access of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to places of detention. The Mission is concerned about the situation of persons deprived of their liberty, in areas controlled by armed groups due to the lack of legal assistance to these individuals”, – said Fraser.



She noted that residents of areas controlled by armed formations are especially vulnerable to human rights violations, and this situation is exacerbated by the lack of rule of law.



“Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights continues to receive reports of killings, arbitrary detention, torture and ill-treatment in the “DPR”and “LPR”, – said Fraser.



Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights knows that illegal armed formations have created a parallel “administrative structure” and introduced such a legal framework that violates international law and the Minsk Agreements. In this regard, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights demands to ensure unimpeded access of its representatives and other international observers to places of detention in the conflict zone, including informal ones, and insists on the exchange of information and cooperation to define the location of persons missing in the conflict zone.



“We demand to provide the relatives of missing persons with access to information on the possible location and condition of their relatives”, – noted in the report.



The organization also demands to ensure decent treatment of the bodies and remains of people killed in the fighting; to provide free and unhindered access to areas where there may be body and remains; to facilitate their identification and proper and dignified return them to their families.



Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights also insists on the immediate mine clearance activities along the major transportation routes and roadblocks.



The monitoring was held from November 16, 2015 to February 15, 2016. It involved 26 experts who worked with all parties to armed conflict.



It should be recalled that according to the Ukrainian side, the militants still hold 129 Ukrainians.

At least 21 Ukrainians are illegally held by Russia on trumped-up charges: 13 in Russia and 8 in Russian-occupied Crimea. One prisoner, Yuriy Yatsenko, was released. He told horrifying stories of torture in Russian imprisonment. Some prisoners have been sentenced to decades of prison, like Oleg Sentsov. Some are awaiting a sentence, like Nadiya Savchenko, who is on her 75th day of hunger strike in protest of the illegal accusations.







The #LetMyPeopleGo campaign was initiated by EuromaidanSOS to protect all Ukrainians imprisoned in Russia and occupied Crimea on political motives. Its aim is to release all the prisoners from the #LetMyPeopleGo list and controls observance of fundamental human rights, among which are freedom from torture, the right to a lawyer, the right to medical care and so on. Currently the campaign advocates for the fate of 13 prisoners in Russia and 8 prisoners in occupied Crimea.
